Someone talk to me about Iron Man 3 coming out next week and the Thor 2 trailer that just came out? And maybe also Star Trek 2, though I have a lot fewer opinions on that one.

They look ok, but not anything worth paying 9 dollars a ticket to watch in theaters.
I will wait for the Blue-Ray and watch it at home on my 9' screen and a comfy couch.

At this point I kind of feel that all these films are going to be just as decent as necessary and nothing more. The Avengers was very good, and exceeded expectations. Other than that, the only Marvel film I really liked was the first Iron Man. Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America were entertaining, but didn't bring too much to the table other than top-notch special effects. They'll probably crank it up for the inevitable 'Avengers 2', but that will be ultimately at the expense of these other movies they're required to make to set that * up.

I think my being around a lot of other people that are really, really into the franchise kicks everything up a bit for me, but I agree, Iron Man and the Avengers are easily the best movies of the lot. Thor was really pretty terrible, story- and character development-wise. Captain America surprised me with how solid it was, but I'm not especially interested in the character.

Iron Man 2 didn't live up to the first movie, but RDJ as Tony Stark is hilarious enough to carry a film regardless of the rest of it, so I'll definitely see IM3 in theatres. Thor 2 is shaping up to be just as lackluster a movie as the first, story-wise, but I'm hoping that it will improve in the character development department.

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with the SHIELD TV show too. Don't really want to think about Avengers 2 yet.

Yeah, I understand. The weird thing about Captain America is that he's supposed to be 'America Man' and the fact of the matter is that the story surrounding him always supercedes his abilities. It doesn't necessarily defeat him from accomplishing his goals, but he gets it done. Seriously, with Cap, a hydrogen bomb could be going off and he could just toss it high enough to defy any odds. Good character, almost always bad writing.

Ha, I don't even care about Cap's abilities, or any of them, really. My main interest has always been characters themselves and their relationships with each other. That's part of why I enjoyed the Avengers so much? The banter was top notch and it was fun seeing how each character interacted with the others. Cap's origin story is cheesy and his abilities aren't especially interesting, but I can dig the 'man out of time' thing and will be interested to how they play it up more in Captain America 2. The story? Probably will be lame. But that doesn't mean the writing is necessarily bad; it just means the character is trapped in and is required to have too many patriotic tie-ins because that's the concept it was born from.

I always thought Cap was an Avenger more for his strategic/leadership abilities, than his powers.

I mean, between Iron Man, Thor and the Hulk, what's Cap gonna bring to the table power-wise?

He can use his shield as a sushi plate.

Yes, I did enjoy his telling everyone the attack plan in the Avengers. I'm looking forward to Captain America 2, but mostly for Black Widow's involvement while I continue pointlessly hoping for a BW/Hawkeye movie.

In other news, Iron Man 3 was pretty * great.
